Steve Rae, executive director of Step Change in Safety, Adam Sheikh, Repsol Sinopec's head of engineering and integrity and Louise Atkin, HM principal specialist inspector from the HSE will consider the challenges the oil and gas industry is facing.
Steve Rae - Step Change in Safety
Steve Rae has more than 35 years’ experience of working in the international oil and gas industry and began his career as an offshore technician. A fateful decision which led to him being onboard Piper Alpha on 6th July 1988.
As well as being a Piper Alpha survivor Steve has held several senior positions and was a member of the UK Step Change in Safety Leadership Team from 2007 until 2011 and chaired Statoil’s (Brazil) Aiming High Group in 2014/15. Steve was Operations Manager for Well-Safe Solutions until he re-joined Step Change in Safety as executive director in 2019. He is also chairman of the Pound for Piper Charity.
Adam Sheikh - Repsol Sinopec
Adam Sheikh holds a senior leadership position as Head of Engineering and Integrity for Repsol Sinopec UK. Adam leads a functional division with Repsol Sinopec that includes Asset Integrity, Engineering Modifications, Technical Authorities, Process Safety and the Subsea division.
He is a Chartered Engineer with fifteen years’ experience during which he has held a number of positions ranging from offshore roles to onshore Asset Management roles. Adam has recently assumed the lead role for a cross industry collaboration group relating to maximising economic recovery for Asset Integrity in the UKCS.
Principal Specialist Inspector with HSE, and head of the Materials and Corrosion team within the Energy Division – Offshore, Louise and the team visit offshore installations throughout the UKCS, inspecting arrangements for initial and ongoing integrity management, maintenance and other materials and corrosion engineering issues. Louise joined HSE in 2001 and, prior to joining the Offshore team, spent 11 years working in the Metallurgy and Materials team of HSE’s Laboratory carrying out forensic metallurgical investigations and leading corrosion research projects. She is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
