The Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) is holding a corrosion awareness day on 29 August 2017 in Aberdeen.
The aim of the event, which is being held at The Palm Court Hotel, is to improve understanding of corrosion processes and also to raise awareness of corrosion management. Different aspects of corrosion, corrosion principles and mechanisms of corrosion control will be covered on the day. The programme includes a talk on corrosion rate modelling and monitoring by Dr Muhammad Ejaz, a senior corrosion engineer at Plant Integrity Management Limited (PIM).
Dr Ejaz commented, “My presentation will summarise the function of corrosion rate modelling packages for CO2 corrosion used in offshore industry design and integrity management. My aim is to rule out the ‘black-box approach’ and, instead, promote the use of engineering judgement in conjunction with the modelling outputs. I will also briefly review corrosion monitoring techniques/data and how it feeds into RBI/integrity management.”

Dr Muhammad Ejaz was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy, Corrosion and Protection, by the University of Manchester in 2009. Catastrophic carburisation at high temperature (metal dusting) is a recognise problem in a number of industrial processes including the manufacture of ammonia, petroleum refining and gas to liquid conversion. Dr Ejaz’s thesis focussed on this area. Entitled ‘Metal dusting of laser-treated Alloy 800H’, it was undertaken at the Corrosion and Protection Centre under the supervision of Dr R Prescott and Dr Z Liu. He developed a coating, laser alloying and laser cladding in order to improve the resistance of Alloy 800H (Fe-33Ni-19Cr) to metal dusting. Prior to this he completed a BSc metallurgical engineering degree in Pakistan and a MSc Materials degree in South Korea.
A senior corrosion engineer at integrity management specialists Plant Integrity Management Ltd, Dr Ejaz held a similar position at Lloyd’s Register and was a materials specialist at LR Senergy. He has also worked as a corrosion engineer with ENGTEQ/CAN (Offshore) Ltd.
Dr Ejaz is a Fellow of IoM3, an Oil and Gas Division Board member, a nominated Fellow of ICorr and an approved interviewer and assessor for chartership applications.
