Entries open for PIM Running Festival at Crathes Castle
Plant Integrity Management (PIM) and the National Trust for Scotland are delighted to announce that the PIM Running Festival at Crathes Castle 2019 will take place on Saturday 14 September in the grounds of the historic Banchory property. 2018 marked the first time that PIM was involved with the Crathes Half Marathon, and also saw the addition of a 1.5km Primary Schools Race to the day. In the light of the fantastic response to the event last year, the 2019 programme includes another expansion, this time to add a 5km cross-country race.
Martin Worth, director of PIM commented: “We were happy to be able to step in and save the half marathon at Crathes Castle back in 2018.
“The addition of a run aimed at primary-aged children was well received with over 90 youngsters lining up on the day. The 2018 PIM Half Marathon at Crathes Castle was a great success, the conditions were lovely and the winner, Kyle Greig set a new half marathon course record of one hour ten seconds.
“We are even more delighted to, not only continue our association with the event, but for it to grow further to include a new 5km
“We hope this addition will broaden the appeal of the event still further and mean that even more people take up the challenge of running a race in the beautiful grounds of Crathes Castle.”
James Henderson, the National Trust for Scotland’s Operations Manager for Aberdeenshire South said: “We are grateful for PIM’s continued support for an ever more popular fixture in Aberdeenshire’s calendar.
“Aside from being one of the most beautiful and historic visitor attractions in the country, Crathes offers an impressive setting for both serious sport and family fun. Crathes Castle parkrun launched earlier this year and regularly attracts over 200 runners. We are delighted that some of the parkrun community will act as marshals for the PIM Running Festival and hope that many more will take part in one of the races we have on offer.
“We’re really looking forward to this year’s festival and are ready to offer a warm welcome to everyone who wants to take part or just come along to watch the fun.”
The route for the PIM Half Marathon will remain unchanged from 2018, taking runners out to the flat, picturesque roads to the north and east of the estate grounds, through beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside. The lawn in front on the Castle will host a family friendly play area and the races will be preceded by a fun-packed warmup.
