PIM is delighted to announce that Steve Rae will chair its forthcoming integrity management event on 28th March 2019.
A recognisable figure, Steve has more than 35 years’ experience of working in the international oil and gas industry and began his career as an offshore technician. A fateful decision which led to him being onboard Piper Alpha on 6th July 1988.
As well as being a Piper Alpha survivor Steve has held several senior positions and was a member of the UK ‘Step Change in Safety’ Leadership Team from 2007 until 2011 and chaired Statoil’s (Brazil) Aiming High Group in 2014/15.
Steven Plant, managing director of PIM said, “With a career in the oil and gas industry which spans almost four decades Steve is well placed to contribute to our event on risk. His industry knowledge and unique perspective mean he is a great addition to the team we have assembled for the day. We are looking forward to delivering another successful integrity management event to our delegates.”
Steve graduated from Robert Gordon’s University, Aberdeen with an international MBA in 2000 and his contribution to the drilling industry was recognised in 2013 when he received the IADC ‘Val Hood’ award for services to the drilling industry. Since 2018 Steve has filled the role of Operations Manager for Well-Safe Solutions. He is also chairman of the Pound for Piper Charity.
Steve Rae added, “I feel honoured to have been invited to chair this event. I know that Steven, and his team at PIM, have put considerable effort and time into creating an agenda that brings the area of asset integrity in to focus and highlights the risks we may introduce by choosing to pay lip service to it within our industry.
“PIM’s chosen strap line for the event, ‘risk: strategy rather than chance’, is a provocative one. It resonates with me as I use a similarly provocative strap line, ‘predictable surprise or an accident’, in some of my industry talks.
“I encourage you to sign up for this event and join other like-minded individuals in an afternoon which promises to foster healthy debate and collaboration on a topic that is of vital importance to the sustainability of our industry.”
PIM’s free event, which is being held at the Carmelite Hotel, will see Steve give a welcome address, introduce the talks, chair the ensuing discussions and deliver the closing remarks. Anyone wishing to register for the event should email PIMEvent@pim-ltd.com.
