Entries open for PIM Running Festival at Crathes Castle – early bird prices available until the end of the month
The PIM Running Festival at Crathes Castle returns on Saturday 19th September 2020 and, with a children’s race, a 5km cross country race and the Crathes Half Marathon, it has something for everyone. Entries for all three events is open and those registering before the end of February will benefit from the cheaper, early bird rate.
Martin Worth, director of PIM, said, “The PIM Running Festival is a chance to compete in a race in the beautiful grounds of Crathes Castle. It also offers an opportunity for a family day out. The range of races on offer, combined with a family friendly play area on the castle lawn means the PIM Running Festival appeals to children, novice runners and race veterans alike.
National Trust for Scotland Operations Manager, James Henderson said, "Our 2020 PIM Running Festival looks set to be our biggest ever. It's great to be opening up more routes and races so people can experience even more of our beautiful Crathes estate. It's one of our national and natural treasures and the Trust is proud to protect it now and for future generations.
‘Following the great success of the 5km race last year, PIM and The National Trust for Scotland are thrilled to confirm that the PIM 5km cross-country race at Crathes Castle will continue as part of our 2020 Festival, taking runners onto the beautiful forest paths of the Estate.”
“The Crathes Castle parkrun has been up and running since February 2019 and is proving popular with the local running community,” added Martin. “Those that know the estate won’t be surprised to learn that the Crathes Castle parkrun was recently named the most scenic parkrun in Scotland. We introduced the 5km cross country race in 2019 to broaden the appeal of the PIM Running Festival and were delighted when almost 200 runners took up the challenge, we’d love to see even more take part in this year’s 5km race.
“As a company we have now been involved with the National Trust for Scotland supporting this event for three years and it is rewarding to see the PIM Running Festival at Crathes become increasingly popular – overall registrations increased by 50% from 2017 to 2019. Introducing the 5km run in 2019, and the children’s race in 2018, has definitely drawn new runners to the event.
Martin continued, “As a lifelong runner it’s a great privilege to be able to support such a popular and growing event and to help introduce ever younger generations to the joy of running, especially in such a beautiful, safe and friendly environment.”
The route for the PIM Half Marathon will remain unchanged, taking runners out to the flat, picturesque roads to the north and east of the estate grounds, through beautiful Aberdeenshire countryside.
Alluding to future plans for the PIM Running Festival Martin said, “We are excited about the future of the event and we hope to be able to add another run to the race schedule in 2021. I don’t want to say too much at this stage, but we anticipate that it will increase the popularity and profile of the PIM Running Festival at Crathes Castle even further.”
